Weird Lagging During COD 5 Online

I've been having this issue since I started playing this game online and I think the main reason I've been able to confirm that its an issue is because COD games have the replay on your death.
There is definitely some sort of lag going on between my game and the other users and its during the replay that it becomes apparent.
There is no lag in the game play AT ALL. I never have any choppy game play or see myself or other players bouncing around the screen unless there's  connection issues that effects the entire room.
But what I do experience on a regular basis is me standing in front of a guy unloading a ton of bullets in them while they aren't even looking at me, then they turn, face me, and kill me. And if that isn't frustrating enough, when they show the replay my guy isn't even looking at the guy that killed me, or I fired my gun well after he did, which is the complete opposite of what I'm witnessing during my game play.
So essentially I need to use far more bullets to get a kill. Or if the myself and an opponent turn the corner at the same time, regardless of me being the first to fire or not, I ALWAYS get killed. And the replay NEVER shows that I was evening firing my gun.
So my question is: what the hell is going on? I could understand if sometime I was on the "quicker" end of the game play, but that isn't ever the case. It would seem to be more of just an online gaming issue, but this seems more like it has to be my equipment or my internet speed issue since I'm constantly on the slower side of the game play.
Has anyone ever experienced this or does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Is it a matter of a setting or something like that?

Let me know your thoughts. And yes I've tried searching all over google and this site and couldnt' find anything that was similiar to my problem.

when you start the game press select and check to see if you have got 4 green bars next to your name because i never play below 4 bars because it lags like frak.

Re: Weird Lagging During COD 5 Online

I don't think its that kind of lagging issue. I generally have a minimum of 4 bars because I am hardwired into my PS3 for internet. Like I said, I don't get a choppy game kind of lag which is what you get when you have a crappy connection. In rooms like that I just back out and try to find something else.
This is when I have a good connection and the game play is perfect, I'm like a second or two behind the opponents game play. Like if I'm face to face with a guy, I pulled up a started shooting him first and then bam I'm dead from what seemed like 2 bullets. They show the replay and he was shooting before me and I'm not the one that barely got off 2 bullets. Except I'm always the one on the slow end of the fire fight.
There has to be an explanation for that somewhere.

Re: Weird Lagging During COD 5 Online

To be honest i don't know. I have my internet through Comcast and I've had it for a few years now. And I"m sure there are different levels of service speed wise. How can I tell what I have, or do I need to call Comcast and ask them?

Re: Weird Lagging During COD 5 Online

Comcast should be fine, but you are not using hardly ANY bandwidth when on-line, if you are not a host.  The host is the person that takes the largest bandwidth load.

Think along these basic guidelines, if you were the host: Every connected player is going to need at least 60kbits/s of your upload bandwidth. This is why basic 256kbit dsl lines usually can only host games with 4 to 6 players, often with lag. If you get a 896k line, you will be able to manage a steady 700kbits, which will allow you 12 players. In some places you can get better upload than that. To host a full 32-player game you'll need at leas 2 Mbits/s of upload bandwidth.

Most places, upload speeds are WAY below download.  Comcast is over 1Mbit, sometimes 2.  Downloads speed is plenty fast, your UPLOAD is what counts, for how many players are on when you host.

SO, if your host has low bandwidth, then it will lag.  If you know you have the right speeds and are not experiencing problems with your connection, then it is the OTHER person, the one hosting the game.

Re: Weird Lagging During COD 5 Online

Well that sucks ass!! If I'm the one with the decent speed why the hell am I the one thats always on the slower end of the game play?
Now I know how those guys are able to pull 30+ kills in a game. I'm averaging between 15-20, but I'm missing out on atleast 5-10 more when I get killed by someone that should have been dead with the 30 bullets I pumped into him.

Frustrating!!

Re: Weird Lagging During COD 5 Online

Run a speed test dude, just do a search on yahoo for like "internet speed test" you will get tons of them.

Also, look on how to optimize your connection for on-line play, if you have a router.  There are settings IN the router, and there are TCP/IP settings you can change in the Windows registry.

The VERIZON site also has a Fios speed test, but it works with Comcast, JUST to get your speed.  It also has an optimization portion, that will change some stuff.  When you pick the test, choose what your comcast is, the closest to mine is like 10/2 - it will do a speed test, then have an optimization part... These values are changed in the Registry, you'll need to reboot.

Also, check how many processes you have running.  High CPU utilization will also effect your network performance.  I have no more than 46 processes, with 52% physical memory free.  I had 1.5GB, and that actually made my PC slower, so I removed 512MB, and it's still at 4.2 perfiormance index with Vista.  If you have too much memory to page through, it eats CPU cycles.

DDR - here is what they don't tell you.  DDR does not work with ONE memory stick, or unmatched memory sticks.  You must have two matching pairs of DDR to actually get the Double Data Rate.  DDR transfers data on the rising and falling edges of the clock signal, without increasing the clock frequency. If you do not have two sticks, you only access RAM once per cycle. DDR2 memory has higher clock rates, while also transferring data both on the rising and falling edge of the clock.

Re: Weird Lagging During COD 5 Online

I actually called up comcast and asked them which internet package I have. They told me that I have a 6meg download and 1meg upload.

I then got your post and logged into Verizon to try their speed test using the 10/2 setting. I got 14.792 mbps for download and 4.292 for upload. And then the optimizer said that my settings were set up for the best performance and I should leave them as they are.

So I guess my question is: was that test accurate or was the person I talked to on the phone at comcast an idiot? either way it doesn't seem to add up properly.

What do you think?

Re: Weird Lagging During COD 5 Online

I also found a site called speedtest.net. check that out and let me know what you think about its legitimacy. It gives you the option to test your speed to servers all over the world. At the DC server which is only 50 miles from me, my speeds were roughly 15/6, but in Germany and Canada they were substantially lower at like 5/1.5.

I wish there was a way to test what kind of speeds you're getting at the PS3. Or would those speed basically be the same since they are on the same network in the house?

Re: Weird Lagging During COD 5 Online

iv always used speedtest.net and so has just about everyone else on this forum. do the test and hit the "copy forum link" at the bottom of the result and paste it here. also try a few different ones close to u. technically Toronto is closer to me then Hamilton  but from the toronto one i only got 600k. it all depends on the server load and what it has to go through to get to u
heres mine and its accurate for my 7Mb line

Here is the result that I got from DC which is the closet one to me. I was getting less from distances that were 4K+ miles away.

What I don't get is the idiot on the phone from comcast said that I should have only been at 6mb download and 1mb upload. So does that make sense?

Downloaded a 15.9mb pdf file from the dlink website (router manual) and it was steadily in the 500k to 600k per second range.

Watch the double posts Patrick, you ADD to your post when posting a whole 12 minutes later...  There is no reason to double post, unless you're just trying to get your post count up.  It's in the site rules, you may want to read them again...

Re: Weird Lagging During COD 5 Online

Dude,
I just joined this forum specifically to ask the question about my connection issues. I've asked a legitimate question and I've provided intelligent information according to the responses I've received. I think it's pretty safe to say that I have no intention of "trying to get my post count up".

But this post does make my 10th post.... what do I win?

Well, you have to agree to the rules when you sign up, and there is a WHOLE paragraph there on double posting, I know, because I wrote it.  IF you don't want to follow the rules, I can fix that...

Re: Weird Lagging During COD 5 Online

I know exactly whats going on, its the same on COD4. Its a built in bug in the game. Its almost identical to the hitbox problems with the source engine. If you play TDM and watch your replay, when Ive unloaded a clip on someone and they turn round and kill me, the replay shows that i never even fired. Its really annoying to think that while your playing your 1-3 seconds behind everyone else (i have no idea why they are 1-3 seconds ahead).

This isn't about bandwidth tests, like Ive said before i have a really good internet connection (posted details a long time ago). This is simply a problem with the COD engine and it probably wont ever be fixed. Shame really.

Same here, especially on World At War. Can't stand it when I shoot and the replay shows something totally different....makes me look bad lol!
