Ok so im a noob to this but very pc familar so I can learn this stuff pretty quick.. I saved a pic to use as wallpaper. I go into xfce desktop in settings manager, and check "allow xfce to manage desktop". when i close it, and reopen, it always is unchecked. I will set my wallpaper and it will finally pop up, but some how cant get the icons to stick no matter what I do. When i reboot the system, the wallpaper does not stick. Any ideas what could be the problem?

PS3 Linux is a joke

It's a bug in Xfce4/Xubuntu. They might have it fixed in 9.04. You could try submitting a bug with the Xubuntu devs.

There really is nothing for Linux for PS3. If you are installing it, as a hope for emulation and other things, you can forget that. There is no hardware access to the GPU from linux, so it is kind of worthless in that respect. I have no use for Linux either, it's been limited in functionality compared to on a PC, so it can't run any extensive graphical interfaces.

I actually used one for a while as a Linux workstation running Gentoo. I just used email, a browser window or two, and a bunch of terminals. On late nights when I was doing server maintenance, I'd switch it back to GameOS to kill some time.
Unfortunately, my needs eventually grew beyond the PS3's capabilities (256MB RAM just ain't enough), and had to switch a full-blown desktop.
It made a great conversation piece while I had it, though. It was the Japanese Satin Silver model on top of that.

That's the other thing, 256MB of ram... The other 256MB is for the GPU only, so you can't use it EVER.

Actually, that's not true. You can't use the GPU, but you can still allocate memory from it. There's a special MTD driver that lets you take that RAM and turn it into a block device. You can then use it as really fast swap memory. I got this working on my system, and the performance difference was quite noticeable. Last I heard, it was slated to be added to the standard 2.6.29 kernel.
